BluOr Bank finances the construction of a new school building in Ādaži
October 06, 2025
Construction has begun on a new, modern, and energy-efficient building for the Ādaži Free Waldorf School. The total project cost amounts to €4 million, of which €3.5 million is financed by a BluOr Bank loan with an ALTUM guarantee, implemented using funds from te European Union`s structural funds. The remaining amount is covered by the school’s own funds, donations, and gifts.
Dmitrijs Latiševs, Chairman of the Board of BluOr Bank, notes: “Alongside business projects, it is important to support initiatives that are valuable to society — especially in the field of education. Education is one of the most meaningful investments, and the new school building in Ādaži will be a significant contribution both to the development of the region and to Latvia’s future. We are pleased to support such a modern, energy-efficient project with great added value.”
The new building is being constructed at 21 Skolas Street, where the school is currently located. At present, classes are held across several buildings — three educational blocks, a recently built sports hall, and rented portable modules that were initially intended only as a temporary solution.
These modules are neither energy-efficient nor practical, which is why the new two-storey, Class A energy-efficient building with an area of 2,000 m² will allow the school to reduce maintenance costs and create a safe, modern, and inspiring environment for students and teachers, says Kerola Dāvidsone, Chairperson of the Board of the association Privātā Vidusskola ĀBVS. The new premises will also include modern chemistry and physics laboratories, enabling the school to further develop its STEM and STEAM education programs — areas that are a priority not only in Latvia’s education system but also across Europe. According to school representatives, the Waldorf approach offers unique added value by combining scientific methods with creativity. This synergy prepares students for the challenges of the future and a dynamic labor market, where both technological skills and creative thinking are increasingly important.
The construction is being carried out by SIA “Arčers”, the design was developed by the architectural firm “Made” led by Miķelis Putrāms, and SIA “Samners” is responsible for construction supervision. Work is already underway, and the new school building is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. During the 2026/2027 academic year, students will be able to move into the new, modern, and sustainable learning environment. Ādaži is one of the few municipalities in Latvia where the population continues to grow. The average age of residents is just 37.8 years, indicating a high proportion of young families with children. As a result, the demand for kindergartens and schools is increasing, yet there are only three educational institutions nearby — Ādaži Secondary School, Carnikava Secondary School, and the Ādaži Free Waldorf School. All of these schools are already operating close to full capacity, and the demand for school places often exceeds supply.
Kerola Dāvidsone emphasizes: “Ādaži is different from much of Latvia — it’s one of the youngest municipalities, with many families raising children. Building a new, modern, and sustainable school here is a natural step — demand creates supply. We want children to learn in an environment that inspires them to be creative and thoughtful individuals, because creativity is the key to the future.”
Currently, the Ādaži Free Waldorf School provides education for 420 school students and nearly 60 preschool children. Once the new building is completed, the school’s capacity will increase by approximately 50 students. The Ādaži Free Waldorf School was founded in 1993 and is one of Latvia’s first private schools. From a small community of 60 children, it has grown into a well-recognized educational institution offering accredited education through grade 12 and remains the only Waldorf secondary school in Latvia. The school is part of the International Association for Waldorf Education, which unites more than 1,100 schools and 1,900 kindergartens in 66 countries worldwide. In Latvia, there are currently four Waldorf schools — Riga Waldorf School, Pārdaugava Waldorf School, Ogre White Waldorf School, and the Ādaži Free Waldorf School, the only Waldorf high school in the country.
