Support for the study program “Computer Science and Organizational Technologies”

The University of Latvia (LU) and Riga Technical University (RTU), in cooperation with the University at Buffalo (USA), initiated a new study program for excellence in information technology (IT), which will be coordinated by the RTU Riga Business School (RBS).

In the first year, 60 students will be enrolled in the Baltic Bachelor of IT Leadership program “Computer Science and Organizational Technologies” implemented by LU and RTU. Studies will be conducted in English according to the standards of the world’s leading universities, and the program will be coordinated by RBS. The program will integrate IT competencies with skills in communication, project management, art, law, finance and other skills that will provide students with the foundation for a successful career in the digitized era.

Classes will be conducted by teachers with internationally leading academic and professional experience, and with the support of the state, in the fall of 2019, the teacher training program in the USA will be launched.

The Leadership program was also praised by the Head of the Finance Latvia association, Sanda Liepiņa. At the opening ceremony, she confirmed the industry’s willingness to provide both financial and practical support in the implementation of the program and symbolically presented a cheque for the amount of support from the members of the association.

To facilitate the growth of young professionals meeting the highest world standards, BlueOrange Bank has allocated more than EUR 35,000 to support the study program, while ensuring the payment of two scholarships over the next four academic years.

In order to promote an effective and modern partnership between the industry, government and universities on the matters of digital transformation of the Latvian economy, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Economics, and leading universities in Latvia – RTU and LU, as well as major ICT and finance sector organizations in Latvia – LIKTA, Finance Latvia association, Latvian IT cluster and the RTU Riga Business School Advisor convention signed a memorandum of cooperation on the establishment and implementation of the Excellence program in Computer Science in Latvia.
